FIRE OUTBREAK AT YABATECH

A fire outbreak early this morning at a hostel in Yaba college of Technology, Yabatech has forced academic activities to be put on hold. A statement by Dr. Charles Oni, Yabatech spokesman reads;
“By this notice, all examinations and lectures, especially
scheduled for today (Wednesday) have been put on hold
while the College attends to the exigency.
“The Management regrets the misguided and outright
falsehood on the social media and calls to certain radio
stations that there was no water on campus to quell the fire.
The truth is that firemen needed an excavator to attend to
the fire, which the College provided promptly.
“Meanwhile, the Rector, Dr. Margaret Ladipo has called on
the College community to remain calm as the Management
finds ways to soothe the pains inflicted by the accident.”

Fayose warns Ghanians against voting for change

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has counselled the people of Ghana not to make same error made by Nigerians in the 2015 presidential election by voting for change, which has brought hunger, sufferings and economic recession to the country.
Fayose issued the warning as the December 7 presidential election in Ghana draws near,
He said “by buying into the All Progressives Congress (APC) message of change, Nigerians are now facing a kind of hunger and suffering never experienced in the country in the last 30 years and Ghanaians must not fall into that kind of trap.”
A statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said Fayose spoke while playing host to some men of God from Ghana at the weekend.
The governor said; “Ghanaians should not succumb to the deceit of the opposition party that are calling for a change of government. Rather, they should return the incumbent President, John Mahama, who has no doubt done creditably well to deserve a re-election.
“Ghanaians should know that the change in Nigeria brought hunger, suffering, disregard for the rule of law as well as arrest and detention of Nigerians without trial and be mindful of those preaching change to them.
“Most importantly, the situation in Ghana at present is similar to that of Nigeria. Like President Mohammadu Buhari, opposition party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has contested the presidency two times. This is the third time he is contesting. He is also 74 year-old.
“In Nigeria, change is synonymous with economic recession that is even getting to the level of depression. Even majority of those who brought the change are now regretting it.
“Therefore, tell your people in Ghana that Nigerians are already regretting the change they made last year, which has plunged the country into serious economic hardship.
“Tell them to learn from Nigerians and reject those preaching message of change to them. They should hold on to the government that they have now and beware of a change that will take their country to economic recession.”

URHOBO AND IJAW CLASH INTENSIFIES

THREE indigenes of Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, were reportedly kidnapped, weekend, as the dispute between Urhobo and Ijaw communities in the state worsened. Those abducted were Mr. Gbolei Andrew, at Ovwian Expressway Junction at 5p.m.; Ebiarede Ponmo and Izonfa Abun, who were fishing along the Warri River, close to Aladja community at 4a.m., yesterday. The youth wing of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Udu chapter, led by Sunday Subi, had recently given a seven-day ultimatum to Ijaw indigenes in Udu to vacate the area. An Ogbe Ijoh leader told Vanguard that the chairman of Ogbe Ijoh Zonal Committee, Elder Freewei Makirigbene, informed the community about the kidnap and the matter had been reported to security
At press time, tension had mounted at Ogbe-Ijoh following an unconfirmed report that armed men have been recruited to kidnap and assassinate some prominent leaders of the community. The source, however, hinted: “Ogbe-Ijoh people will certainly not fold their hands if the relevant government agencies refuse to secure their release.” We did’t kill, kidnap anyone— Ogbe-Ijoh Meanwhile, Ogbe-Ijoh community, yesterday, said it knew nothing about the killing and kidnap of Urhobo indigenes as alleged by an Urhobo youth leader. Chairman of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom Governing Council, Alex Akemotubo (Esq.), in a statement, said: “The attention of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom Governing Council has been drawn to publications, both in the print and the social media, alleging that some Urhobo indigenes were killed and others still missing in the wake of renewed communal crisis between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja on one hand, and Isaba and Aladja on the other hand. “These allegations by the youth wing of Urhobo Progress Union, Udu chapter, by one Sunday Subi, is too weighty to be ignored, hence this clarification. “We, therefore, appeal to the leadership of Urhobo Progress Union to call its youth wing in Udu to order and urge security agencies in the state to investigate this allegation by inviting Sunday Subi as Ogbe-Ijoh people know nothing about dead or missing Urhobo indigenes in the wake of renewed hostilities between Isaba and Aladja communities. “We view this claim as cheap blackmail and attempt to introduce ethnic colouration to get sympathy from the larger Urhobo ethnic nationality.”
