The Organized Labour Unions and Pensioners, OLUP, in Ondo State has
bemoaned the conditions of service of teachers in Ondo, disclosing that
the state government only pays N25 as monthly allowance to science
teachers in the government’s employ.
Speaking during an interactive section on Thursday with the
governorship candidate of the APC in Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu,
SAN, the Chairman of OLUP in the state, Comrade Abiodun Falohun lamented
that English teachers now teaches mathematics in Ondo schools owing to
lack of man power.
Flanked by the OLUP secretary, Mrs Tayo Fayoju and some leaders of
the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, he said, “Your
Excellency sir (referring to Akeredolu), science teachers in Ondo State
earn N25 monthly as allowance which is not so in other states. Even the
27.5% teacher’s salary scale (TSS) that teachers have been collecting
before the current government came on board has been scrapped.
‘Today, many schools are facing acute shortage of teachers. Take for
instance, A.U.D secondary school at Iju/Itaogbolu has just four
teachers. Teachers are no longer allowed to get to grade level 17.
“Instead of permanent secretary, Mimiko appointed teachers as tutor
generals, a position that is not known to law. No training, and salaries
are not being paid as of when due. We are pleading with your Excellency
to give us justice when you get there. Please be rest assured of our
support come November 26th,” Falohun said.
